Spurious Brood: Gathering and Artist Talk

Overnight Projects presents Spurious Brood, an installation by Virginia-based artist Chris Mahonski. The title references groups of cicadas that emerge years too early or too late, out of step with the established rhythm of their species. Through this work, Mahonski attempts to capture the spirit of cicadas using timepieces. The artist will install Timex Ironman wristwatches — their alarms set to ring in intervals — on tree branches lining Burlington's City Hall Park at the corner of Saint Paul and College Streets. The installation will create a digital chorus for the summer evenings.

We will gather around the trees at 830 pm on Thursday, June 22 to hear the artist speak about his work and together at sunset, experience the mysterious greenish INDIGLO® of the watches and a large crescendo of sounds.
